<p><strong>(ATLANTA &#8211; December 21, 2011)</strong> - Simmons Bedding Company&#8217;s ComforPedic® memory foam brand and retailer Bedzzz Express have partnered to provide new mattresses to Alabama families devastated by recent tornadoes. The donation is part of a two-city tornado relief effort in Alabama, with giveaways in both Birmingham and Tuscaloosa.<br />

&#8220;Immediately following any natural disaster, there&#8217;s always an outpouring of community aid, but as time passes, relief tends to taper off,&#8221; said Scott Smalling, Simmons&#8217; chief of specialty innovation. &#8220;We felt it was the perfect time to help these families now that are rebuilding and moving back into their homes &#8211; many starting over with nothing to furnish them.&#8221;<br />
&nbsp;<br />
During the events, held in Birmingham at The Christian Services Mission and in Tuscaloosa at Temporary Emergency Services, Bedzzz Express and Simmons donated 188 new mattresses to families across Alabama. These local organizations were instrumental in helping Bedzzz Express and Simmons identify families in need in the wake of April&#8217;s tornadoes.<br />
&nbsp;<br />
Tuscaloosa&#8217;s Temporary Emergency Services, a United Way Agency, directly supports individuals and families facing immediate crisis situations. In Birmingham, Christian Services Mission works with local churches and organizations to transform communities through helping individuals and connecting resources with needs.<br />
&nbsp;<br />
&#8220;The tornadoes left a normally resilient group of people stunned and helpless in the face of such overwhelming destruction,&#8221; said Mary Grace Melick, director of community development at Christian Services Mission. &#8220;To know that a corporation the size of Simmons cares enough to dedicate the time and energy to help in recovery has given people hope that they are not forgotten.&#8221;<br />
&nbsp;<br />
Ed Sanders of Extreme Makeover: Home Edition joined the team in Birmingham to visit with recipients and help distribute mattresses to devastated families. Throughout the day, countless stories of hope were shared including two local families that have worked together to raise donations and rebuild nearly 15 homes for neighboring victims free of cost. Those affected are rallying together to bring their communities back to what they describe as &#8220;our new normal&#8221; and to pay any kind deeds forward, exponentially increasing aid to those who have lost everything.<br />
&nbsp;<br />
&#8220;We&#8217;re based in Birmingham so it&#8217;s our customers, our families and neighbors that are struggling,&#8221; said Keith Krininger, owner of Bedzzz Express. &#8220;Our company has been working since April, providing mattresses to local families, but Simmons came to town and really stepped it up so we could give these families the restful night&#8217;s sleep they deserve.&#8221;<br />

The mattress donations are part of a nation-wide initiative from Simmons in conjunction with the company&#8217;s ComforPedic Loft® AirCool™ Sleep System Tour, &#8220;showroom on wheels&#8221; that is traveling 10,000 miles over 20 weeks to visit hundreds of retailers in 35 cities across the U.S., including Birmingham and Tuscaloosa.</p>

<strong>(DALLAS – Dec. 19, 2011) </strong>- Simmons partnered with retailer Sleep Experts here to present a surprise gift of new ComforPedic Loft sleep sets to a group of hard-working volunteer firemen.</p>
<p>Christine Cook, president of the 35-store Sleep Experts chain, joined ComforPedic founder Scott Smalling in making the donation of seven extra-long twin sleep sets to the firefighters at Fire Station No. 1 here. The beds, placed on new bed frames by Smalling and other Simmons officials, replaced a rag-tag assortment of aging, tattered mattresses in the firefighters&#8217; bunkroom.</p>
<p><span id="more-853"></span><img title="More..." src="http://www.comforpedic.com/wp-includes/js/tinymce/plugins/wordpress/img/trans.gif" alt="" />Dallas-based Sleep Experts, which supports several charitable causes, was pleased to partner with Simmons on the fire station makeover.</p>

<p>&#8220;These firefighters are heroes of Dallas and have shown the utmost dedication and courage to keep our community safe, and we&#8217;re honored to help,&#8221; said Cook, whose picture is on the company&#8217;s delivery trucks. &#8220;We hope these beds provide comfort and support for a good night&#8217;s sleep, as well as show our appreciation for the firefighters&#8217; unyielding commitment.&#8221;</p>
<p>Cook joined Smalling and other Sleep Experts and Simmons officials for a tour of the fire station. She and Smalling even donned firefighter hats and climbed up into the front seat of one of the fire trucks.</p>

<p>The Dallas fire station makeover was the fifth on the 20-week, 10,000 mile ComforPedic Loft Road Show, on which Smalling, Butch Webster, vice president of ComforPedic, and local Simmons officials are introducing the new ComforPedic Loft specialty sleep line to retailers.</p>
<p>The new line features an Air Cool Sleep System that helps the memory foam beds sleep cooler than competitors&#8217; models, officials say. That provides the theme of the fire station makeovers: &#8220;Work Hot, Sleep Cool.&#8221;</p>
<p>The Dallas firefighters who will sleep on the new beds were delighted.</p>
<p>&#8220;Watching the firefighters&#8217; reactions made it clear to me how much this makeover meant to them,&#8221; said Fire Marshal Robert De Los Santos, who was at the fire station when the Sleep Experts delivery truck rolled up. &#8220;We&#8217;re grateful for Simmons&#8217; and Sleep Experts&#8217; generosity, and I know everyone will truly enjoy the new beds.&#8221;</p>
<p>When the beds were set up and fitted with mattress protectors and sheets, the firefighters on duty plopped down on them and got comfy. They said the beds felt great.</p>
<p>The surprise donation was the latest in a long list of charitable projects supported by Simmons, officials said.</p>

<p>The proprietary NxG memory foam in the ComforPedic Loft beds is designed to respond quickly to the body&#8217;s movements, dissipate heat through improved air flow, and provide durability and resilience over the life of the mattress, officials said.</p>

Both report to CEO Gary Fazio<strong>. </strong>The company’s move to expand the specialty sleep leadership team marks Simmons’ commitment to advancing its position in the category.</p>

Mr. Hill began his career at Simmons in 2005 as senior<strong> </strong>vice president, supply chain, and was later promoted to senior vice president, sales operations and development. Most recently, he served in the Program Management Office for Simmons’ parent company AOT Bedding Super Holdings, LLC, where he was responsible for designing and implementing strategic initiatives that maximized efficiencies and drove significant cost savings for AOT Bedding. In his new role back at Simmons, Mr. Hill is charged with leading a division focused on creating consumer demand, elevating brand awareness and driving the growth and profitability of the specialty category.  Mr. Hill has more than 25 years of industry experience and holds a Bachelor of Science and a Master of Business Administration from Washington University.</p>
<p>“Brad has been a valuable asset to Simmons and our parent company AOT Bedding. <p><strong>(ATLANTA – May 12, 2010)</strong> – Simmons Bedding Company is proud to announce that all of the polyurethane foams in the company&#8217;s mattress lines have earned the CertiPUR-US® certification seal, verifying that the foams are low-VOC and free from ozone-depleting CFCs. The certified foam products are made without PBDE fire retardants, lead, mercury, formaldehyde, prohibited phthalates and other potentially harmful materials. Simmons played an instrumental role in facilitating the CertiPUR-US certification process for each of its foam suppliers, encouraging them to achieve the certification as a way to address growing consumer oncerns about the safety of polyurethane foams.</p>
<p><span id="more-204"></span></p>
<p>&#8220;Consumers today are paying very close attention to what&#8217;s inside the products they purchase—whether it&#8217;s food, toys, paint, furniture or bedding,&#8221; said Anne Kozel, brand director of Simmons&#8217; specialty sleep division. &#8220;They are aware of previous issues with synthetic materials and are especially concerned about foams in mattresses because of the close contact people have with their beds during the night. The CertiPUR-US seal helps provide peace of mind by certifying that the polyurethane-based foams in all Simmons mattresses meet strict health and safety requirements, so consumers can feel confident about buying Simmons products.&#8221;</p>
<p>In a recent consumer survey, Simmons found that almost two-thirds of respondents were &#8220;very&#8221; or &#8220;extremely&#8221; concerned about the health and safety of the roducts they buy, and that a large number of consumers were specifically concerned about the contents of their mattresses. To Simmons Promotes Achievement of CertiPUR-US Certification provide consumers with assurance that the polyurethane-based foams in Simmons mattresses are nontoxic and of the highest quality, the company has required all of its foam suppliers to obtain CertiPUR-US certification.</p>
<p>&#8220;We felt it crucial to ensure all foam components utilized in a Simmons mattress demonstrate environmental and durability compliance as part of Simmons&#8217; quality expectations and commitment to consumer safety,&#8221; said Sheri McGuire, Simmons&#8217; director of supplier quality. &#8220;Simmons is proud of the joint commitment our foam suppliers have made to ensure Simmons&#8217; polyurethane foam products meet the CertiPUR-US program requirements.&#8221;</p>
<p>To achieve the CertiPUR-US certification seal, petitioning foams are sent to an independent, third-party laboratory for rigorous durability and indoor air quality emissions testing as well as a content analysis. The xamination must demonstrate that the foams meet the environmental, health and safety standards described in the U.S. Voluntary Physical Performance and Environmental Certification Guidelines for Flexible Polyurethane Foam for Use in Furniture and Bedding Items to qualify for the certification. A team of industry leaders, scientists and environmental experts contributed to the creation of these standards while developing the CertiPUR-US program for the Alliance for Flexible Polyurethane oam, a leading foam industry trade organization. So far, 11 foam suppliers have met the CertiPUR-US guidelines, and 12 additional foam products are currently under review.</p>
